Specs: Windows Vista

I have a usb soundcard (HiFace usb/spdif
convertor) which I use for playing music on my
stereo, and the internal soundcard that is used
when sitting on the computer.

Now I have to choose manually what cards to

Is there any way to set up soundcards for
different use automatically? Or make both
soundcards play the same?

No, you can only use 1 card at a time.

Depending upon the application and drivers you might be able to
choose from several audio devices. I had two usb sound devices
in addition to the built-in sound device and all appear in the
control panel.

I had one card and one built-in. When using a DJ software, I was able to play from one card and listen with the other through headphones.

Adobe Audition will let you pick which sound card to use. Again, I could play from one card and do anything else with the other.

I guess it depends on the software. Windows Media Player won't let you pick a specific card without going into your sound properties and changing to the card you want.

What exactly did you want to do?

Asus M4A78-EM
AMD Phenom II X2 550 @ 3.11
Patriot PC2-6400 4Gig
MSI R4830
Seagate 160Gig SATA
Seagate 320Gig SATA
External 1T

Thanks for answering. I want to play spotify or itunes etc through
the external soundcard that is connected to my hifi, and all other
sound through the internal soundcard.

But seems like that depends on the application. I have now
started using foobar2000, which lets me do this, and then I can
also play spotify through foobar (network casting)
