Specs: Windows 7
Hey guys. My family and I are moving to a two-story house and am planning to set up a multimedia home theater with Dolby Digital. And mount a big screen! It will be awesome!! I want to hook up 4 signal sources to 2 TV panels and control them. The 4 sources will be my old laptop (no hdmi output), Blu-ray player, cable TV, and PC (video card has HDMI). Question is: can I use hdmi matrix switchers and converters for non-hdmi signals? Do matrix switchers support multi-channel Dolby Digital audio? Thanks for the input!

It would be easier to run them through a multi-room receiver (with 2 hdmi outs preferably for your 2 TV panels). It has all the up scaling you will need built in. I personally like Pioneer Elite. But there are many that do the same things. I would start at crutchfield.com, bestbuy.com, overstock.com, amazon, and ebay. If you find a manufacturer you like go to their website, and start narrowing down your specs. Then look for the deals on which ever website you choose.

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.

I only have used a pigtail 3 in 1 out. Self switching. It never worked right. One of the hdmi's would blink about ever 10 seconds. Looks like anyone on that page will do what you need it to. Since you do not have 8 or 16 devices with hdmi's on the same TV, I couldn't justify spending that much for an over the top switch. Dump that much in a high end receiver. Magnolia has about the upper end of what you would want.
