Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 1.595 GHz / 1013 MB
The drive motor for the linear optical-head movement in my 5.1 Ch. Home Theatre System has failed. However, the 5.1 ch audio power output and speakers are working fine, so I would like to continue using it.
Unfortunately, the box does not have a 5.1 auxiliary input. It just has a standard L-R audio input for stereo.
My requirement is, what can I do to play 5.1 ch DVDs through this box. Can you suggest a. Some sources for replacement drives b. Some way I can hack into the audio circuit- meaning, do DVD disk drives follow any 5.1 ch common standards for output signals which I could hack into? c. Use an external drive d. Hook it up to a drive+sound card on a pc
Thank you for your time.

I made a wise decision, got a bargain deal, and the next day found that my model was outdated.

Wonder if you will believe this! I did a internet search for a replacement for the faulty motor..RF156ca from Mabuchi. Turns out it is obsolete. After a frantic search through my scrap, I found that a drive motor from my old Sony tape Walkman was just about the right size and voltage!! With minor adjustments I was able to mount it and it seems to work!!! Soon after, I busted a flexible flat cable end and I have to work on that now. I don't know how to prepare the end of the FFC with the blue stiffener, but that is a different story. I guess I'll post that in the hardware section

I made a wise decision, got a bargain deal, and the next day found that my model was phased out.
