How olde is the drive? It may simply be a dirty laser lens. Try cleaning it with cd/dvd cleaning disk - available at many computer stores and Amazon or Egghead etc.

It may be that the laser itself has died and thus you need to get another drive unit

likely the laser (for DVDs) has failed... not unknown albeit not a very frequent event?

Can you test the system using another usb external dvd unit?

Hi Vandal,

is the cleaning disc you used for both cd's *AND* dvd's?

Also is it the type where you have to dampen the cleaning brushes with isp?
This is the best type, as opposed to the dry version.

Did it previously play the dvd's now failing.
If they have not been played previously, could there be a region problem.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Usually if a disk is the wrong region for the drive as set, there will be a popup from the computer advising the region setting for the disk isn't the same as for the drive?

I agree to use a "wet" cleaner disk system if posible... But I'm inclned to think the laser for DVDs hath died a death...?

Yep, looks like that particular drive should be able to handle DVDs.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
