Hi folks,

MS SQL Server 2008 R2

I have following questions which I hope are suitable for this forum;

1)
Do I need Windows OS to install and run the captioned server? I don't find it on;

Hardware and Software Requirements
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...

If YES please advise which OS, Windows 7/Vista ?

2)
What are the differences in application between;

SQL Server 2008 r2 Enterprise

and
SQL Server 2008 r2 Web

and
SQL Server 2008 Workgroup

?

3)
Any difference on hardware and software requirements between them?

TIA

Well I'm not an MS-SQL guy, but here's what I think -

1) If it needs MS SQL to run, then yes, you probably need a Windows server.

2) Licensing restrictions. As with most MS-Crap, you can only use the software for a certain number of connections / resources & then you're "locked out" until you upgrade (or people leave / resources free up)

See: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/...

3) Yes. Certain versions will not take advantage of all available memory / cores, so purchase your hardware & software accordingly (See link on #2)
