Solved Cannot change last digit in Excel 2007 16-digit sequence

March 22, 2017 at 09:34:43
Specs: Windows Vista
When entering 16 digit sequences in Excel cells (eg. bank card numbers), the last digit cannot be changed from "0." no matter what the alignment or "number" setting.

NB The fix I used was to Type a Letter (eg. 'A') in front of the numerical sequence. Final digit could then be changed and saved. No idea what causes this glitch?? JAD

How is the cell formatted?

Doing the best I can here... And remember, there's always more than one path to success. :)

✔ Best Answer
Excel will only recognize 15 digit numbers.

When you added the TEXT letter A to the beginning of the string
you changed it from NUMERIC to TEXT which is the usual solution.
