Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 2.204 GHz / 1470 MB
My desktop uses an: ASUSTek A8N-LA (Nagami2L) motherboard

I know it is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor (possibly 2.8ghz). Can I use this processor with it?

Will it work? What is the worst that could happen if it doesn't?

Edit: This is my first post, I think this belongs in this section, correct me if I am wrong.

There is no socket 939 X2 that runs at 2.8GHz. You need to check the model number on the top of the CPU.

According to the link you posted, the max your board can handle is an "AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 4800+". The 4800+ runs at 2.4GHz.

Ok, thanks. I'll have to get the model number of the processor then (at least I didn't buy it).
