Solved Will a cpu run at a lower speed in an unsupported chipset

May 3, 2017 at 18:21:25
Specs: Windows server 2008, Pentium 4 with hs
I have a dell dimension 8400 I was given I am using it as a server it has a pentium 4 I would like to upgrade to a core 2 duo I have laying around but the chipset doesn't support it. What would happen if I put it in any way it's the same socket so it will fit will it just run at a lower speed or not work at all. Thanks

Simply put, it won't fit the same socket (different number of pins), and thus won't work.
