Solved Why did my memory upgrade fail - Dell Lattitude D820?

December 20, 2016 at 20:52:20
Specs: Windows 7, Intel 2G RAM
Recently upgraded from 2G to 4G; afterwards I attempted to boot and nothing happened but 1 steady and 2 blinking green lights. The video screen remained black and system shut down after a few minutes. I tried it on the docking station, and same failure. I removed the new memory and replaced with old memory; still the same failure. I followed the instructions to the 't' on how to do the install, but I am sure what went wrong. Any suggestions or solutions?

Problem resolved. I apparently did not have it seated correctly. My IT person here at work resolved it in less that 15 minutes. Thank you all for your help!

You didn't say which light is steady and which are blinking so you'll need to refer to the guide for what the diagnostic lights mean, it's shown here:

Refer to this page to see what the diagnostic lights mean on your http://blog.parts-people.com/2014/0...

For one light steady and two blinking I think that's the third picture from the top (RAM not detected).

Make sure you install the RAM properly in the slots. If you don't insert them properly they won't be detected.

The first light was steady and the other two were blinking. I will refer to the page shortly.

Thank you!

Did you ground yourself from static charge before opening up the computer to install the memory?
Did you make sure that the memory is compatible with your system?

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
