Why are there so many processes running?

Hello, I'm new here. I just got the laptop on monday and I have noticed that there are about 75 processes running on the computer, but only about 20 are displayed in task manager. My memory usage is at about 35% and CPU is only at around 5% when I am running firefox and skype and maybe one other small program. So I'm wondering if this is normal or if theres a chance that my computer is already infected.

How did u know about 75 processes? U have alot of garbage installed. Un-install all software that u don't use and use msconfig or autoruns to disable un-necessary soft.
Memory & cpu usage are fine.

It's displayed in task manager at the bottom next to CPU usage and Physical memory. Alot of HP programs like media smart came with the laptop, so i guess thats whats running all the time.

Get rid of all of that trialware and then, go into msconfig and uncheck the programs that you don't need to have running in the background all the time.
