Solved Which processor is better for gaming?

July 30, 2011 at 02:29:50
Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium
The two processors are the dual-core AMD Athlon II at 3.5ghz and the quad-core AMD Phenom II at 3.2ghz. The video game in question is World of Warcraft, and let's say both computers had the same graphic settings and graphics cards. I'm just looking for a general overview of which would run the game smoother.

Obviously the Phenom II is the better of the 2 CPUs, but I doubt you'd see a noticable difference in that old game.

The game won't take advantage of multi-core CPU.

If I were you, I'd get for the Phenom. While kuwese is correct that WoW won't use all 4 cores, many other applications and games will. The Phenom also has an L3 cache, which will give applications sensitive to memory bandwidth a little boost.

But to answer your question, both CPUs would run WoW at such a high frame rate that you wouldn't be able to notice a difference.
