what is the best cpu for all around things?

Specs: Windows Vista
Im building a desktop and i need a cpu for gaming and video creating and i decided that im going to use vista instead of windows 7. So i just need something that would cover almost everything and that is fast. Thanks

The 1st thing you need to decide on a budget, then decide if you want Intel or AMD. THE fastest will cost you over $1000 for the CPU alone.
