Does anyone know what's the best current desktop AMD cpu on the market right now?

And what socket is it?

The FX-8300, socket AM3+, is the best bang for your buck. Make sure to get a board based on a 900-series chipset such as the 970/SB950 combo.

Did you not look at the links? The FX-9590 is currently the "best". The New Ryzen line of CPUs is going to be released in a couple of weeks. Supposedly they will be faster than the Core i7. Cheaper too. It will use the new socket AM4, a new line of chipsets & DDR4 RAM.

@ vondes - please start your own thread. Include the make/model of your motherboard, CPU, RAM, power supply, etc. If you have a notebook or a branded desktop system (Acer, Dell, HP, etc), you can forget about overclocking because the necessary BIOS settings are not available.
