It can go up to 4.2ghz by itself. According to AMD the fx 8150 can easly go to up to 4.6ghz with air cooling.
-Disable turbo clock and max turbo in BIOS.
-Pump the CPU multiplier to x22 (200 x 22 = 4.4ghz)
-If it goes well(download and run prime95) pump the multiplier to 23.
-Adjust these voltages(CPU vcore 1.45v, CPU/NB 1.2V, Northbridge 1.2v & NB HT 1.25v)
-Make sure the maximum operating temp doesn't exceed 61c.

Do u know your CPU can go up to 4.2ghz(max turbo) when there's tdp headroom? Are u planning 4.5ghz with air cooling?
Post the rest of system specs.

You need to post the make/model of your motherboard & RAM specs.

"my mobo will be a crosshair V and i was planning on 8g of ram"

That's the best you can do? Are you getting DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600, or something else? Which brand? Which voltage?

Here's your board specs:

" formula V is a high end mobo and 8g is enough"

You came here asking for help & have provided minimal info. If you want help you need to respond to the followup questions.

It doesn't matter if you have 4GB, 8GB, 12GB, etc. You didn't state which speed/voltage you are going to use. If you get the wrong RAM, it will limit how much you can overclock. And the RAM voltage is important. DDR3 RAM that conforms to the JEDEC standard runs at 1.5v, but there is other RAM out there that requires higher voltages. Why? Because it's not what is says it is & needs to be overvolted to run stably. You said you never overclocked before so I suggest you do some reading before you muck up your "high end mobo".

BTW, I hope you got a decent quality high end power supply to go with it. I'd ask which one but I doubt you'd give a straight answer.

16.0 GB RAM Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 1600
2x AMD Radeon HD 6970
OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 SSD
1TB Seagate barracuda sata 3 HDD
thermaltake bigwater A90 closed loop CPU water cooler
Creative fatality reacon 3D sound card
Aerocool Strike-X S7 black case
thermaltake toughpower 1000w PSU
2x sythe HDD coolers added 140mm fan to the back and bottom of case (skythe 1600rpm) and a phobya 200mm fan on the side pannel (stock idle is at 11 according to core temp and HWmonitor)

i was wondering if there is anywhere that just lists what voltages i need to change what to turn on and off i am aiming around 4.5 to 4.8

cheers
