Dual core Phenoms are quad cores with 2 cores disabled. Business class Phenoms (that's what the B means in B59) are usually higher quality CPUs which makes them more dependable & reliable, which is why they're designated B. You can try O/C'ing your 1st gen in the meantime but I wouldn't expect a lot out of it, maybe 2.6-2.8GHz. It will be trial & error plus there's the possibility your system will become unbootable, in which case you'll have to reset the BIOS & start from scratch. Make sure you've flashed to the latest BIOS before you begin. I'll have a look at the manual & see if I can recommend some settings to try.

What speed RAM?

I have a better idea. Buy the following CPU, unlock it, then overclock it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...

No disrespect, I meant I had a stupid question. That had nothing to do with what you asked.

The Phenom II I linked to for $20 is an good deal & a heck of a lot better than your 1st gen Phenom, even if you overclock the crap out of it. And if you can unlock one or both cores on the B59 creating an X3 or X4, it's a no-brainer. BTW, I trolled eBay & found B59's for about $15. If you have the extra cash, it's better than messing with your 1st Gen. But if you want to keep it, check the 2nd link in my 1st response.

Ok. Also I read somethings stating the B59 sometimes come with the cores locked or not working at all, should I be concerned about that. Thanks again for all of your help and advice.
