Please post the make/model of your laptop. Your "CPU specs" are "Intel Core i 5" but it's incomplete - which i5 do you have? The rest of the info listed are your laptop specs but they're incomplete as well - which "512 mb graphic card" do you have?

you should use 'high performance' power plan while playing games.

this might be a case of processor heat-up. check your current 'system cooling policy' under Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management > System Cooling Policy, this should be active on both battery and adapter.

Also try Razer Game Booster (not specifically for this problem)

Why do you take the battery out of the laptop ? Laptops don't have graphics cards, they have integrated graphics solutions there is not graphics card unit installed in it.
Anyways, 512MB does not tell us anything we need a name for that "graphics card".
download speed-fan and monitor your temps especially CPU temperatures and report them back here when at idle and when you are gaming. And when you game it is recommended to have a cooler under your laptop keep that in mind.

The graphics are "ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5450 Graphics 512 MB" which is better than a lot of laptops, but still not a gaming graphics "card". Your laptop is considered an "Entertainment Notebook", not a gamer.

HD 5450 is not a gaming card but yea still better than other laptops with intel graphics.
if you want you can take my advice in response 4 or download the latest drivers for your 5450 and lower the games video settings

Sorry for a really really late reply. Of course it's an entertainment notebook but I play dota and it's optimal requirements are very low.. However yet it lags.. More over the overall performance of windows drops from 5.5 to 2.2.
