MSI KT4 & Asus K8N-E mb's

Specs: Linux i686, athlon 64
I have a couple of older boards to upgrade to.

In both cases after fitting and power on there was no POST and little else.

Is it likely that POST is directly related to the BIOS and that the BIOS may need updating for a more recent processor that the boards were originally compatible with?

It just seems odd that the two boards have done the same trick?

You're supposed to benchtest BEFORE installing a board in the case, now you have no idea what the problem is.

The K8N-E is an excellent board...much better than the older KT4.

Yeah, the KT400 chipset sucks; can be very picky about RAM.

Insure you have a known good power supply.

What are you using to test these boards? CPU? Memory? PSU?
