Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64x 2.4ghz 2.5gb
ok so my cpu, a amd Athlon 64 was running ok untill it just froze. i turned it back on then ithung at the boot screen. so i left it for an hour and turned it back on and it worked for about 20 minutes. so i figured it was overheating and i checked the cpu and it had little thermal paste on it so i put more on. it worked then when i turned it on the next day it hung at the boot screen. that was a couple months ago and i have been trying to get it to work. is it my cpu or somthing else?

It's only supposed to have a "little". My guess is it was OK, now there's too much. Did you completely wipe off the old stuff & then apply fresh paste? If not, that' s a mistake too. AMD CPUs use the "middle dot" method. Watch this video:

If you suspected overheating, all you needed to do was check the temperature reading in the BIOS or try using Temp Monitoring software.
