Which GX620 do you have, the 2nd one in the link below, the desktop? Which CPU do you currently have?

http://support.dell.com/support/edo...

Is this your board?

From what I could find, the CPU you linked to will NOT work. The max is the Pentium D 840 @ 3.20GHz.

You need to answer the followup questions. You said you have "the huge dell optiplex gx620 desktop" but if you look at the 1st link I provided, only one of the four GX620's is actually called a "desktop". Is that the one you have?

A little googling would have shown you that the Pentium D 3.2GHz is the max officially supported by your system. I don't know what would happen if you tried a Pentium D 3.4GHz? And depending on which CPU you currently have, you may just be wasting your money. How much RAM do you have? Which video card? If you only have 512MB & are still using the onboard video, your money would be better spent upgrading those items rather than the CPU.

You STILL haven't stated which CPU you have! Here's what is officially supported:

- Intel® Pentium® D 800MHz FSB socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T , 2x1MB L2 cache, and EIST* (8xx series)
- Intel® Pentium® 4 800MHz FSB socket T with HT , XD, EM64T , 2MB L2 cache and EIST* (6xx series)
- Intel® Pentium® 4 800MHz FSB socket T with HT , XD, EM64T , and 1MB L2 cache (5xx series)
- Intel® Celeron® D533 MHz FSB Socket T with XD and EM64T (3xx series)

The CPU you chose is a 9xx series
