please can you tell me at what
temperature should my computer run at
for safe use. iam not overclocking.

It depends on the CPU...some run hotter than others. Basically, 40C or less at idle is good. Some CPU's will idle considerably lower than that, however, there are others (such as the P4 Prescott) which tend to run hotter.

The easiest way is to go to the HP/Compaq website & look it up:

You have a S775 P4 540 (P) HT 3.2 GHz / 800MHz FSB. That would be a Prescott.

Thankyou again, you are correct i have a prescott so when i am
using the net and have several windows open iam runnning at
between 30c and 40c you would say this is a good temperature?
