Overclocking a laptop is a thoroughly bad idea. These systems lack just about everything necessary for safe and effective overclocking. One big problem is the extra heat that overclocking generates. The confined space of a laptop makes this very difficult to dissipate. Many laptops run hot at stock speeds. Desktops have a variety of third party coolers to deal with this but are almost nonexistent for laptops.

Manufacturers are well aware of this and usually omit the necessary settings from the BIOS. This saves you from the hardware failures and them from the resulting warranty claims.

If you are new to overclocking a laptop is no place to start. It is a job for an expert looking for a challenge, and one willing to accept the considerable risks. It may be possible but the risks will be high and the results rarely satisfactory.

Overclocking is best confined to home built desktops where you control the quality and specifications of the components used. You can't do that with a laptop.
