How can I swap coolermaster heatsinks?

Specs: Windows 10
Is it possible to replace a coolermaster Sphere with a coolermaster hyper evo 212 without having to resort to removing the retention bracket from the motherboard itself?

Please post specs - at least CPU & motherboard, plus the reason for the swap. Does the sphere not cool properly? Are you upgrading the CPU? Obviously if the heatsinks don't mount the same, you will have to swap the bracket hardware, which means the board will likely have to be removed from the case.

Hello. I'm swapping as the sphere's fan has failed. Mobo is P5N32-SLi Plus with Intel Q6700. Socket 775.

It appears the backing plate on the underside of the board will have to be swapped. If your tower allows both side panels to be removed, check to see if you have access to the backing plate without removing the board. If not, the board will have to come out.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I had to remove the mobo, graphics card and soundcard to install the heatsink as I didn't have access to the other side . I have seen a remarkable increase in cooling as previous temperatures on 3 of the 4 cores were 100C+ whilst online gaming. I'm now running at a relatively cool 49C.

Thanks again.
