The biggest boost to performance comes with installing more RAM, and with only 1GB of it yours is certainly a candidate for that.

32-bit Windows can address up to 3.25GB, so increasing your RAM to 4GB will give it a very noticieable boost, but no point going above that as Windows won't use it.

64-bit Windows, however, can use all the RAM you can afford to give it.

About the only thing you can do now would be adding a graphics card for better gaming performance and if your board supports it, adding more memory. If your system only has an AGP graphics slot, you will probably pay a lot today for a graphics card that will be moderate at best compared to today's PCIe 16x 2.0 and later cards. Depending on your motherboard, you might be able to overclock it, but if you want a significant improvement, you will need to purchase a new system or do a new build from scratch.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Pip@ Most P4 boards supported up to 1GB or 2GB of RAM and although many P4 are 64bit (I am pretty sure the socket 775 ones were), they are not practical for 64bit windows.

How about posting the make/model of your motherboard, which P4 you have, type of RAM, hard drive, power supply specs, & which OS you're running?
