Solved gateway intel pentium 4 540 3.2ghz processor 915g chipset

my system has slowed down I know i can increase the RAM but is there any way of increasing the CPU to make it run faster?
I'm using Windows XP

If your system has slowed, it's most likely because it's loaded with garbage, not because it needs to be overclocked. It could also be the CPU is overheating & throttling back. More Ram might be helpful but being that you didn't say how much you currently have, it's impossible to say.

Since OEM systems generally aren't designed to be overclocked, any attempts would have to be done via software, in other words, it would pretty much be a waste of time. But if you insist on trying, see response # 5 in this thread:

Get rid of malware, and adware.
If Im not mistaken the 915G has 4 DDR slots. If thays the case you can install up to 4GB of RAM.
Combine that with decent video card and your PC should perfom great with windows xp.
