Do I need Antivirus and Windows Defender on Gaming PC?

Specs: Windows 10, I5
I have a desktop that is 100% used for gaming only. Even if it were hacked the only thing that would be seen are the game files since that is all that is on it. I use my laptop for daily activities and it is secure. Oh I do have Google chrome browser on the gaming PC though so that is my only concern. Though don't I have to actually download a virus to get one? I was wondering if I could disable the Windows Defender and Avast Antivirus at least during gaming as some maps I play the frame rate fluctuates a little to where it makes competitive gaming more challenging so I am trying to free up as much resources as I can. Thanks.

If you go online with the computer, it needs virus & malware protection. Simple as that. If you disable it for online gaming, you put your system at risk. I suggest you look elsewhere to free up resources, however, you might want to consider replacing Avast with something more lightweight.

Did you disable all of the Win10 "spyware"? Did you look at your list of startup apps & disable the unnecessary ones? Posting your system specs might be helpful too.

use method 1, this will make sure the MS antispyware executable doesnt randomly hogg up a single cpu core as it did on mine

the thing is when i was running cpu intensive tasks, the antispyware would take 25% (1 out of 4 cores) making the program i was running slower.
that trick in the link fixed it.(a reboot is required)
