Specs: windows 7 ultimate, i5 760 2.8ghz gskill 1600mhz dual channel
do you think that my cpu was properly installed. it is an i5 760 1156 socket type just like the motherboard. so i took the cpu out of the plastic case and took the cover off of the motherboard socket pins. i didnt touch the plates on the back of the cpu or the motherboard pins. so when i popped up the lever the install the cpu i lifted up the lever and inserted the cpu vertically without wiggling it. then when i pushed the lever to lock the cpu in place i heard a crackling sound as i pushed the lever down. i did not place it in wrong it fit in all the notches. So do you think it will work. thanks its my first build

Were you earthed when you were handling the CPU ???

Shouldn't matter to much being earthed. instead of a crack it might have been the leaver clicking into place.

If your comfortable that it did not shift while you lowered the plate, the go for it. If you are not as sure, then unlock it and visually inspect it since damage to the CPU or the socket should be obvious.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

yes i was grounded and i only heard the crack when i was pushing down the lever. and the cpu was in the correct position and only time will tell because i am doing the first boot when my gtx 460 and 500gb hd come from tigerdirect next week. i checked the cpu again to see if it shifted and it did not. the cpu didnt feel like it was locked into place that well but it went inbetween the right slots so i think that it was fine.
