CPU X86 or X64?

Specs: Windows XP, AMD Sempron 2800+
hi I have been considering replacing my current OS ( Windows Xp X86 SP2 ) with Windows Xp X64 and I'm not entirely sure if my CPU is even X64/X86 compatible, i know its x86 compatible evidently.

but I really would like to have x64 installed as it utilizes the cpu properly from what ive been told.

however, im not certain if my cpu supports this architecture.

YES, you have a 64-bit CPU. You didn't need to post all the above info, but you could have found your answer in it.

ah just got sick of x86 hanging now and then, and was told by a pc tech that 64 bit is far more superior lol

wasnt entirely sure if my cpu was x64 compatible with all of that info, thanks so much for letting me know :)

is there a way of overclocking my cpu a tad so it performs a little better than it is?

If your system's hanging now & then, it has nothing to do with 32-bit vs 64-bit. The Sempron 2800+ should overclock well above 2.0GHz IF you have a decent motherboard, but 1st you have to find the cause of the hanging & fix it.

Looks like there's several boards based on that chipset:


Do you have an actual video card or are you using the onboard graphics? If the lagging you mentioned occurs during gaming & you're using the onboard, that's most likely the problem...you need to upgrade the graphics. Also, DDR2-533 RAM is the wrong RAM - it's bottlenecking the system. Not only that but it will severely limit any overclock. Get some DDR2-800.
