cpu upgrade without changing motherboard

Specs: Windows vista home, cpu

im pretty low tech so please go easy on me... :)

I wish to upgrade my current cpu without changing my motherboard and have a question regarding compatibility.

System is a dell inspiron 545.

the motherboard is 775 socket, 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz (FSB)
manufactured by foxxconn, part number DG33M06 / N826N

Current cpu is a duel core intel celeron E1500 (512K Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

ive recently got into pro tools and this processor sadly isnt up to the job.

Couple of questions...what is the best intel cpu (core 2 duo, core 2 quad) i can upgrade to for working in pro tools with my current board?

is there anything else i have to consider ie:bios upgrades, optimal processor speed vs FSB?

any help would be much appreciated :)

The recommended system requirements for Pro Tools 9.0 (if that's what you're using) are fairly high - quad core CPU, 4GB RAM, nVidia video card.

Your board should accept both the Core 2 Duo & Core 2 Quad, but you're going to have to determine which models are actually supported. Looking at the following review, this particular 545 came with the Q9400.

nice one mickliq! :)

Many thanks for taking the time to reply - im currently running pro tools LE, and the celeron E1500 is struggling with only a few rtas plugins. Its also on avid's list of non-supported cpus!

ill go and read up on the alternatives - thanks again
