Cpu overclock speeds up games

Specs: Windows 10, i7 920
I have a strange bug with my EVGA 58X SLI motherboard and Intel i7 920 CPU where if I OC the CPU my computer timer changes. Game animations, music, and dialogue all speed up super quickly. This makes games impossible to play and puts me at a risk for speed hacking in online games.

Extra info:
(The OC is recognised on startup before Windows boots, but after the Windows boot CPU-Z and computer properties don't seem to recognise the change.)

My OC was an attempt to bring it to 3.6 ghz from its stock 2.67ghz

Are you an experienced overclocker? Overclocking should be done in relatively small steps, not huge leaps. 2.67GHz to 3.6GHz is a fairly big leap. I'm not saying it can't be done because the i7 920 is known to O/C to 4.0GHz, but there are numerous BIOS settings that need to be changed to make it happen.

I'm not an experienced overclocker. Regardless though, every small increase in speed results in a slightly faster Windows out of sync. Even my clock and Windows animations speed up!

Have you locked down your PCIe to 100?
Like riider said, there are a number of settings that need to be taken into consideration when overclocking and every different series of CPU has its own issues to watch out for. I do not know the 920 series well but there are others here who would be willing to look over all of your BIOS OC settings if you post them in a reply and make suggestions of what to try to get yours under control. Just saying that it is not working, that you have some experience but not a lot does not let us help you because we cannot even attempt t understand what is going on if you do not give us the tools to help you because we are not there along side you to see what you have done already.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
