Can I upgrade from a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ AM2 2.1 GHz 2000 MHz Processor to a Athlon 64 X2 Dc 5200+ AM2 2.7GHZ 1MB 65NM 65W 2000MHZ Processor?

Will that work?

It *may* be possible. It may also be possible to overclock your X2 4000+ to close to 2.7GHz. Can't help without knowing the make/model of your board.

I don't know the motherboard because it was my uncles computer. It started overheating so I thought he needed to put a different heatsink in and when i went to put a new heatsink in i bent the processor pins so i have to get a new one for him. http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1... thats the computers specs if that helps answer the question any

Changing the heatsink should NOT affect the CPU pins. The CPU doesn't even have to be removed from the socket! And you don't have to buy a new heatsink, you just have to clean the one you have, then re-install it. As for the bent pins, just carefully straighten them...I've done it plenty of times. You're only screwed if you break one off. And the only trick to reinstalling the heatsink is applying the paste correctly. Here's the instructions:
