The 2.3GHz P4 is a socket 478 part. You cannot upgrade to a C2D processor.

However, 2.3Ghz is kind of a strange clock speed for a P4 (OEM?). Might it be an underclocked 3.06GHz P4?

IIRC the slowest 775 P4s were the 2.8GHz 520s and 620s.
A 2.3 would definitely be a 478 chip.
An underclocked 3.06 would probably be a 478 part as well. Most 775 boards don't support the 400MHz FSB speed.
