you can't install Windows XP directly onto a PS3, the
hardware isn't supported.

It is possible to run it inside an emulator, but it's not
easy to do.

you have to install older ubuntu or yellow dog linux or any other power pc supporting os and google for a linux emulator.
you will probably get better info on finding the right emulator in the linux forums once you get yellow dog/ubuntu installed on your ps3. once you get it installed and running post how it went.

Every time I try to load Unbuntu on the ps3, it prompts me to 'insert storage media at the save destination'. -- Yes I'm a rookie, but do I need to insert a specific disk at this point in order to fully download it?
Ultimately, I'm trying to install a different OS for my PS3, so any advice is appreciated.
