What is a background password how d o you use it?

Specs: Linux
Um I went on my settings and saw the desktops background password so I put it on
Please answer my following questions
What is it used for?
How do you get rid of it?
Where is it??

You've posted in the Android forums but your OS says Linux. You need to tell us what device your talking about.

I only know where it is located on the version of Android that I'm
