viewing pics on cd from mobile upload - no pc

December 18, 2013 at 11:02:50
Specs: Linux
I saw a reply to a search on how to view pics on a cdr that are uploaded from a mobile device. The "answer" was kind of snide and not helpful.

It said "Wouldn't the logical thing be to upload to a pc then burn to a cdr?"

Idk about others asking this question but as for me...I ask it because I don't have a home pc. Therefore I need other options.

Man what is it with people on this site wanting to write data to CDs? CDs are growing more obsolete by the day....memory sticks or external SSD hard drives are much, much better options.

Not that I'm singling you out - I've seen this misconception with multiple posters on this site. Just a rant....

Anyway, use one of the pieces of external media I mentioned instead - more space plus much faster to both read and write to and from.

If the pics are already on CD, though, sorry but you're stuck and you'll need a PC to do it. Most iPads or other tablets usually don't include optical drives, but if you have one you can take a stab at it there. CD players are designed to read audio only, so if that was one of your options you were thinking of that's out.

Otherwise, find a friend/relative/neighbor who has a computer and ask if you can use it briefly - also the other option is to find the nearest cybercafé and rent time on a computer there, you can usually do it pretty cheaply.

CD's and DVD's are far more robust than memory sticks and SSD drives. If you knew anything about these devices you would know better then to recommend them for permanent storage.
