Special apps to manually free-up memory on android phones?

Specs: Android, Pentium M, 1.1GHz / 2GB (2x1Gb)
Why do we need special apps to manually free-up memory on android phones every time the stupid-phone slows down? Why don't android devices automatically free-up memory when things start slowing-down?

Disregard the "Motion Computing LE1700..." tag

It's not the Android system that's to blame, it's the make & model of your phone. I've got a Sony Xperia phone that runs on Android but it never slows down. Get a better phone.

I will NEVER buy another SONY product! Had a stereo cassette recorder some years ago that they refused to support for repairs...

Same with HP: my all-in-one won't do ANYTHING if the ink is low, or out; won't even SCAN. What does ink, or print heads have to do with scanning?

Come to think of it, I was pretty happy with my old HP Jornada PDA with Windows CE (though it was quite large), and my old Samsung SPH i500 flip-phone with Palm OS. Now, If I could just find something comparable...

So, Is there any way to get rid of all that bloat-ware and have the phone just run faster? Why do I need all this crap-ware anyway? Never mind, I just traded my Note-3 for a S-5. I know, dumb move, but at least it fits in my shirt pocket with it buttoned. And with a descent case, it just might still fit in my shirt pocket.
