My Android phone isn't shown on my PC's network map either, even though my wife's laptop & my own laptop are both shown on it.

To get around the problem use a wired connection from phone to PC:

Connect your Samsung phone to your PC using a data cable from phone in to a USB port on your computer.

My limited experience with, iPhones at least, is that one usually connects "smart" phones to computers (and other suitably "smart" phones too) via Bluetoof or an actual cable? Not aware they can manage it over bog standard wifi...?

If you're trying to move files (and the USB connection isn't working), it may be simpler to use a WiFi app such as AirDroid to do the job:

Yea I've been doing that. It's works well but when I went to my brothers and set up the Wi-Fi (which I never set up for his machine) worked like a charm. I really enjoyed being able to do that. Thanks for the input.

That's may be my next try. Would like it to work as it does on my brothers Wi-Fi connection. I'll keep that in mind if I can't do it the way my other equipment works. Thanks for the apps tip.
