If it hasn't happened already, when will the Nvidia Tegra 2, 1 GHZ dual core processor become obsolete? Is Nvidia Tegra 3, 1.2 GHZ quad core now essential to perform basic office /student multitasking?

Thanks for the help!

The quad core will help basic multitasking by letting you open more documents with out hanging, dual cores are getting obsolete these days especially in desktops and some laptops.

Only you can decide what is useful.

Hang up and live.

Obsolescence is always a relative term. In one sense most computer hardware is obsolete before it becomes available because there is always something better under development. In practical terms a piece of hardware is obsolete when it is no longer able to serve the intended purpose.

For some purposes a quad core processor is pretty much essential. For others a dual core is quite adequate. Only you can decide. Basic office /student multitasking will mean many different things to different people.

Thank you so much for the responses. What are some examples of basic student multitasking that a dual core could not handle as efficiently as a quad?

I found a dual vs quad core link you could look at, don't know if it will help.
