Need to root my Xperia St15i (I think)

Specs: Windows XP
My phone is a Sony Eriksson St151 Xperia
with Android 2.3.4
currently has 42.83 Mb internal storage
Manage Applications says 369MB used 51MB free

in the last 2 month I have started to experience intermittent problems downloading or updating apps with Google Play, with the report "Insufficient Storage Available"

Poking around for answers, this seems to be a common problem, basically due to an undersized /cache partition or if you prefer, oversized APK files (according to the helpful, informative and spectacularly rude answer posted several months ago on the android-market technical help forum)

In general, the fix seems to be to create a larger /cache partition on the SD card and create a link to that in the internal memory.
One suggestion I found was to install the thirdparty application MarketFix, but this requires root access to run, at which point my courage failed.

So my questions are ...

Is this due to an undersized /cache partition

Will MarketFix fix my problem with Market

What's the safest way to root an Xperia St15i

Usually caused by having too many apps installed - get rid of some you don't need.
The internal memory is used for storage of installed apps as well as the android operating system. Sounds like you simply have too much stuff installed.
