Solved More RAM for my Samsung Phone?

June 6, 2018 at 11:44:42
Specs: Android
I've got a Samsung Galaxy J7 phone which has 83% RAM remaining (1.3GB). I have an SD card installed which has 66 GB of its 70 GB still available.

Is there a way to take advantage of the abundance of storage I have left on the SD card, either in lieu of, or in conjunction with, this app in order to increase my RAM?

Thanks.

"Excluding the SD card the phone's RAM is showing 57% used and 597mb is still free"

"The storage is showing 83% used and 1.3gb is still free."

Given those statements, I'm wondering if you just want to move some of the apps off to the SD card. If so, then:

(the process may vary slightly from the above, but likely not much)

The performance and operational characteristics of an SD card are totally unsuited for use as RAM. For practical purposes it is a disk drive, and not even a particularly fast one. There is no substitute for RAM. As far as I am aware there are no cell phones that have upgradeable RAM.

83% free RAM would seem to be more than enough. It means that only 17% of the RAM that you paid for is being used.

Why do you want more?

I think I've given the wrong information so appeal for folks' patience!

Excluding the SD card the phone's RAM is showing 57% used and 597mb is still free.

The storage is showing 83% used and 1.3gb is still free.

I'm concerned about memory only because I'd like to add more apps, but have no idea how much memory any of them takes up.

Any advice for a smartphone novice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It would depend on the app. Most apps won't take up memory (RAM) unless they run in the background like a GPS app. Even if they do, usually they are tailored to take up very little memory usage.

I guess the real test would be to install them and see how your phone performs.
