Is there a way to manually save an app from google play store as a file to back it up yourself in case it ever leaves the store? Also manually install it on your Android afterwards if you need to use it

Note the advisory in the first link re' it only works for free apps.?

Is there any way of knowing which app to trust that are available to do this on play store? I have heard that websites or apps that make the AVK could put their own code in it without you knowing.

Hard to say but a search on the web asking if a given item is safe, clean or not is probably one way to find out?

AVK - what is it?

If you meant virus apps. i don’t think
there’s any evidence that any of them are in anyway dubious in the way you ask. But some are considered better than others when it comes to demands on system resources; ease of use, and value for money. There are some freebies which are perfect for home use at least. And MS virus app is now considered a good, reliable one as well.
