How to put document's icon on homescreen?

Specs: Android 4.1.2, Intel Core i5 2.5GHz/6GB
I have several icons for various apps on my android homescreen, but I would like to put an icon for a specific document on the homescreen, as I can do on Windows. Is this possible?

On my old Nokia phone, there is a built-in spreadsheet app that is easy to access & I use it to record small cash expenses incurred throughout the day. To do this on my Android phone, I created a spreadsheet with the right setup, and I installed Polaris Office. But to get to it, I have to launch Polaris, open the sidebar, then open the recent files list, then open the file. An alternative would be to launch MyFiles, navigate to the Documents folder and open the file. Either way, too many taps to be convenient.

Any suggestions?

It depends on the actual phone make & model, but if my Android handset is anything to go by (Sony Xperia SP) it's not possible to put documents on the Home Screen.

You can only put apps or widgets on it.

Maybe a Windows Phone would suit your way of working better than Android?

What about launchers? Is there a replacement for the homescreen launcher that can put document icons on the homescreen? (I'm sure this is technically possible, but I'm not sure if anyone has had the good sense to do this, yet.)
