Is the metal worskshop on the same mains distribution box as your house? If it is then you could possibly use homeplug adapters. Which you might use depends on where you are/which country you live...

If the workshop is not on the same mains distribution board (fuse box/consumer unit) as your house then you have to consider using external antennae between the house and workshop. Both house and workshop will have a directional antennae. The house one will be fed from the house router; the workshop antennae will be connected to a router within the workshop and then you have both wifi and ethernet inside the workshop.

Curt R is very much into this arrangement - whereas my input is purely general and not experienced based. So I suggest you wait for Curt, or one or two others here similarly more experienced with line of site antennae; and follow their advice.

You would probably find wireless point-to-point antenna's would be your best option. I've worked with eNgenius products and been very happy with their performance. I would highly recommend you do some research and check out a few different manufacturers and pay a lot of attention to reviews from customers.

You don't require enterprise level equipment so don't think you have to go for the really expensive stuff

Since the distance between buildings is so short, you might also be able to use wireless bridge devices.
