Solved How GPS Works without Connection?

December 6, 2017 at 21:15:54
Specs: Android
I was playing with my cell phone and I do not have data. Just local WIFI. So how is it that the GPS (using Google Maps) is actually working and telling me the directions as I drive, without a connection?
Thanks.

I reply as fast as I can, but it could be hours or months.

GPS uses a form of wireless.

Since communication between your phone & the GPS satellite doesn't need an internet connection, it is not classed as data by your network provider.

I use GPS with several apps on my phone, but I always have mobile data disabled, which proves that GPS doesn't use your data allowance.

Wow, of my searches I did not find anything that simple to understand.
So they have a transceiver that uses radio waves. Simple!
Thank you.
