Earbuds make clicking sound

I bought skull candy inkd earbuds to use with my Dell Venue 8 3480 tablet. The earbuds make a clicking sound as soon as they are attached with no sound playing and the volume is quite low when sound or music is playing. Is there something else you need to do other than just attaching the earbuds to the headset jack? Thanks.

Did you try the earbuds in another device to confirm they're OK? Did you try connecting a different pair of earbuds, headphones, or PC speakers to the tablet to see if the tablet has a problem?

Yes, I tried them in my laptop. They worked fine. There is a separate volume control for headsets on the tablet I wasn't aware of; that helped but the clicking sound continued. The plug does not sit properly in the jack; it doesn't go all the way in. An icon appears on the screen that a headset is attached but maybe the clicking is a result of the jack not being seated properly. Anyway, I may trade the earbuds for a headset like used to come with the Sony Walkman.

Those Sony Walkman phones were good. Made in the days when good quality sound was not measured by the amount of bass you could whack through them - not that they lacked bass though. The cable on mine got "hoovered up" which wrecked it nicely. Spent ages repairing them but made it in the end and it was worth it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Do you have another pair you can try with the tablet? If the earbuds work OK on another device, the earbuds probably aren't the problem. Either you're not seating the plug all the way into the tablet's audio port, or there's something wrong with the port itself.
