Solved Chrome on android tablet problem

November 16, 2016 at 00:52:11
Specs: Android
When I open a site using Chrome on my android tablet, a new window pops up labelled "redirection" and I get either some dodgy site offering competitions to win phones, or the play store site wanting me to install some app or other.

Is there any way of stopping this? I've tried several apps claiming to stop it, but they don't work. Is it just the price I have to pay for free browsers like Chrome?

I suggest you install Firefox and try that instead of Chrome.

You can get Firefox for Android from Google Play, or direct from the developer's website here:

You "might" resolve it by simply clearing history and cookies.

Another possoble route, having first safeguarded any personal data first (to a computer), try a factory reset?

I don't have an Android device, but I'm presuming that they have that option?

But first safeguard any personal data!

If you haven't already cleared Cookies, History, and Cache,
definitely try that first!

The next thing to try would either be Firefox as Phil suggested,
or the course of antimalware remedies that Johnw frequently
prescribes here -- or both.

Factory reset of an Android tablet is quick and easy to do, but
as trvlr hints, it will wipe out ALL your personal stuff as well as
your apps, so back up everything you want to keep, first.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, but simply not using Chrome, and using Firefox instead, is the simplest answer. I'm assuming that Google makes money out of these popups but they are infuriating enough for me to avoid Chrome altogether.
