Can i use my motorola phone as just an mp3 pl

Specs: andriod 2.1, dual core 3.2ghz/4gb
Hi i won a motorola mb511 flipout phone and don't need another phone for phone use. I don't have another sim to use and i am waiting for the 1st iniatial charge so i thought i would ask if i can just use this as an mp3 player? I know that many phone on the first boot ask for a sim so not sure with these modern phone

Depends on who the carrier is. In the US Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T/T-Mobile use GSM (not sure about Sprint). GSM phones usually need a SIM card programmed to be able to connect to a cell-phone account, but it may still work as an MP3 player irregardless. CDMA phones have their account info programmed into them, so it should be no problem to use it as a (albeit expensive) MP3 player.

Ah sorry i am in Australia and i charged the mobile. Bad news....can't get into it without a sim. We don't have cdma here anymore. This country is too vast and cdma was not working for us...not that gsm is very good either he he. Thanks anyway....:0)
