Hi,
can't work this out. got a new 160Gb WD HDD, installed XP Home on it - everything is fine with this. no problems here. love the drive.

i put the replaced drive, a 15Gb WD HDD in the cupboard (with XP wiped off it). i ran this drive for 7 years with ME on it and then in 2007, with XPHome on it. the current motherboard and CPU and RAM i have had for 2 years. so what i am saying is that i ran WinME on the hardware that i have now AND on that 15Gb HDD.

today i thought, instead of stashing it in the cupboard and bringing it out once a month to backup my XP files on it, i'll load ME OS back onto it and a few games that run great in ME. so i partitioned the 15Gb drive in FAT with FDISK (1 Primary partition), formatted. everthings hunky dory ready to go ! (the 15Gb drive is cabled in the master position on the CS cable, with the CDROM on the Secondary as Master. i disconnected the new 160Gb drive off its cable. no other drives)

Here's the problem: after formatting the 15Gb drive, i changed to CDROM Drive E, inserted WinME OS CD, typed in "setup" and away she goes ! The first WinME GUI setup screen is displayed with the mouse curser in the center and my PS2 mouse is non-operational !! This never happened before in setting up ME on this current hardware and with this same mouse.

i tried several times at installing ME on the 15Gb drive, but each time the mouse is non-operational at the first GUI screen. the computer hasn't frozen, as i can use the keyboard to get to the next GUI screen.

the mouse has no problem running right now in XP on the new drive.

anyone any ideas ??

thanks for listening :)

Can you get through the entire installation without the mouse, using TAB and the keyboard to choose your options?

Try it, maybe the mouse will work upon a completed installation.

Try disconnecting the 160 gig drive and then install ME.

hi cxxxix. am not an expert in keyboard commands and not too sure what keys to press to manourver the curser. I might try it tho.

hi Dave. lol, i'm sorry i wrote so much above, i may have confused everyone.....

the new 160Gb (with XP on it) is bolted into the chassis BUT i removed the IDE Primary channel 80 wire CS Cable and ATX power lead from it. Then i connected that IDE cable and a power lead to the 15Gb drive >>> which is propped up level on books outside the PC. Then i booted up, did the FDISK and formatting whith a WinME boot floppy.

if i can't get ME back on the 15Gb drive because of the mouse prob, i wont really worry about it......i'll just use the 15Gb drive as a backup drive for the new 160Gb XP drive, as originally intended anyway.

cheers
