Comment: After Reboot, I have to manually check the Quick Lauch for it to appear on Taskbar. I recently removed addware, so I guessing that had something to do with it. How would I go about fixing this problem without having to reinstall windows. I did a research and found subjects with this problem in Windows XP and all talks about a file called userinit.exe which I searched my computer and it does not have such file in the system or anywhere. I'm using Windows Me....please let me know... Thanks......Adam

Reply: (edit)I'm not 100% sure this works in WinME, but try right clicking on the Start button, then click on Properties...put a check next to "show Quick Launch", uncheck "lock the taskbar", & uncheck "group similar...."

Reply: (edit)'Lock taskbar' and 'grouping' of items just aren't part of WinME, so it would be exceedingly difficult to do as instructed - - XP fixes aren't necessarily applicable to earlier versions of Windows "I recently removed addware" Could you be more specific? Does the quicklaunch folder exist? C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch (usually) I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. Reply: (edit)... well, that's something I suppose That taskbar is dependent upon IE's desktop update feature - just a shot in the dark, but you might consider performing an IE repair via its add/remove entry I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. Reply: (edit)The version I'm using is not in the Add/Remove entry. I'm using the version that installs with Windows Me. For some reason my computer does not like the updated versions...

Reply: (edit)You're saying you have the stock, 'out of the box' version of IE installed (IE5 something or other) and that you have been unwilling or unable to install a later version, because of previous failures? Ok then - - maybe you can use this command from the 'run' box: rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt" It has to be exact, so copy & paste (maybe even from the linked page). It assumes IE5 Not sure if that will help (or even possible in this situation) but it's an avenue to explore "my computer does not like the updated versions..." Well.... 'like' doesn't enter into it - - probably you've some other (or related) issue, and there is a chance upgrading IE would correct the toolbar problem You never did explain your "addware" problem fyi Sentences normally end in periods, not ellipses (...). While occasionally used to signify a thought trailing off, try not to overdo it I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. Reply: (edit)I have IE 5.5 I ran the command and the Interent Exploroer 5.5 and internet Tools Box pops up and the only option that it allows is to add new componet. When using an updated version of IE, (versions 6 or 7) for some reason pages do not display correctly, and it always says after loading pages, "done, but with errors" and pictures with text don't display correctly, like on Ebay's home page.. so thats why I use the dinasour version, but that has nothing to do with the problem, I've tried those versions before and didn't effect the quick launch toolbars. I wen into the registy and deleted anything that said what the adware was, and I also deleted Easy Cd Creator 5 seeing how, it started to give me a problem, not finding my Dvd burner drive, after uninstalling that and going into the registry deleting everything that said cd creator or Roxio, I might have screwed up the qucik launch toolbar, after that, thats when I noticed the quick launch bar not working correctly. Cd creator started to give a problem while burning a cd and the computer frooze, and having to manually turn it off, ever since easy cd creator 5 has not been able to read the drive, even after uninstalling to program removing as much as I can from the reg, and then reinstalling cd creator with updates. I even reinstalled the drivers for the external dvd/cd burner and not luck... Adam

Reply: (edit)A bit moot at this point, but "going into the registry deleting everything that said cd creator or Roxio, I might have screwed up the qucik launch" That is a distinct possibility - - right then and there you might've tried restoring the registry, or performed a system restore I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. Reply: (edit)This was already checked - - kind of pointless dontcha think, since they've gone with 'overkill' (partition, format & reinstall)? A fact you seem to be aware of?? Reply: (edit)I am using Windows XP and recently did a System Restore. Now I find I have to right-click on the task bar to show the Quick Launch toolbar every time I boot the PC. I did have the task bar locked, which I've now remedied, so I'll have to see what happens next time I boot! Daisy.

Reply: (edit)Well, I unlocked the Taskbar and the Quick Launch Toolbar still did not show on boot-Up! I have now locked it again. It has been suggested in other quarters that this has something to do with Reg Seeker, although I can't see what, as I have been using this for some time time now, with no ill effects. Could it be something to do with a recent Windows update? I wouldn't be at all surprised!
