I have a Pentium III, 733MHz, 128Mb RAM, and a 133MHz Front Side Bus. I looked at my memory stick that came installed with my computer and it says that it is PC-100.
I want to upgrade to 256Mb RAM, but I'm not for sure if I should:
(1) change the PC-100 (128Mb) stick for a PC-133 stick (256Mb); or
(2) just add another PC-100 (128Mb) stick.
Will the PC-100 and PC-133 really make a difference?

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I successfully added PC133 128Mb "stick" to my computer. Pentium III, 646Mhz. 192Mb (total)

I am sure you will get other opinions..
When you do install, make sure insertion is complete, and you make sure to reseat anything you may have loosened while installing

This is just my personal quirk, but I always like to install matching RAM wherever possible - same brand and same speed - helps reduce compatibility issues.
I also prefer to use two sticks rather than one, gives you something else to work with if one stick goes down at 2am !

When I want to do things to my computer I want to get it right.Double,triple check things. You could take your computer manual to say, Best- Circuit City--Comp USA etc. walk in their store and let them look at the manual and tell them what you want to do.- -Also do Like I do with Hewlett Packard, E-mail their tech support.That way you can print out what they say and then run down and buy your RAM. If your chipset on the mobo support PC133, you can either put another PC100 or PC133 stick onto the board; however, PC133 will run at only PC100 speed. I recommend u to go http://www.crucial.com/ and find out how much it would cost to get a PC133 256MB comparing to PC100 128 or PC133 128 (as an additional). If the prices are not too diff, just go for 256 coz in the future, u might need another 256 stick... never know.

For performance, the PC133 is supposed to be somewhat faster than PC100. well, it is, but not by far. Most benchmark results show PC133 is only slightly faster.

If you are going to get 256 PC133 stick, dont throw your old stick away, sell it on eBay. At least, you get something back for it. :)

I decided to take out my PC-100 128Mb stick and replace it with a PC-133 256Mb stick, and everything is working great.

I figured that if I wanted to run PC-133 memory, I would have to take out the PC-100 memory stick because it will only run as fast as the slowest memory stick. Also, the PC-133 256Mb stick was on sale for only $29.99 at OfficeMax.
