Key Highlights
- UPS inaugurated a $100 million logistics facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan — marking its largest Asia Pacific installation
- The center sits adjacent to Taiwan’s primary international airport, optimized for technology freight operations
- High-tech cargo accounts for approximately 80% of all freight moving through the facility
- Applied Materials (AMAT) has designated the site as its Asian distribution headquarters
- UPS evaluates potential flight operations to Kaohsiung, where TSMC builds a major manufacturing facility
United Parcel Service (UPS) has inaugurated a $100 million logistics facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan, representing its most substantial operation across the Asia Pacific region. The center addresses escalating demand from technology companies, especially those operating within Taiwan’s renowned semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The Taoyuan location benefits from proximity to Taiwan’s primary international airport, positioning it ideally for time-sensitive, high-value technology shipments. Lauren Zhao, president of UPS Asia Pacific Supply Chain Solutions and Freight Forwarding, informed reporters during the launch event that high-tech freight comprises roughly 80% of cargo processed at the location.
Applied Materials (AMAT), America’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer, selected the facility as its Asian distribution headquarters. AMAT shares climbed 3.37% following the announcement.
“Taiwan’s semiconductor industry stands as the most advanced globally,” Zhao stated. She emphasized that manufacturing capabilities associated with this sector position Taiwan as a worldwide leader.
TSMC, the global leader in contract chip manufacturing, generates substantial regional demand. Its processors enable much of the worldwide AI infrastructure expansion, establishing Taiwan as an essential link in international supply networks.
Southern Taiwan Expansion Under Review
Sam Hung, UPS managing director overseeing Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan operations, indicated the company explores flight operations to Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan. The decision hinges on client requirements.
Kaohsiung serves as the location for TSMC’s significant new manufacturing facility, part of an emerging semiconductor concentration in Taiwan’s southern region. Should this industrial cluster develop as projected, UPS may expand operations accordingly.
The $100 million capital commitment demonstrates how logistics infrastructure follows Taiwan’s chip ecosystem. With TSMC anchoring the AI supply network, rapid equipment and component movement has become essential for companies like Applied Materials.
Applied Materials Partnership Details
Applied Materials establishing the Taoyuan hub as its Asian headquarters provides UPS with a core client deeply integrated into chip production. AMAT manufactures the equipment that produces semiconductors — making its distribution requirements closely aligned with manufacturing timelines.
The UPS installation enables both organizations to adapt rapidly to changing chip production demands throughout the region. Such responsiveness proves critical when equipment delays can suspend fabrication operations.
UPS maintains operations exclusively through Taoyuan airport in Taiwan. The Kaohsiung expansion remains under evaluation as of March 25, 2026.
